Longmont woman facing attempted-murder charge in stabbing
Abstracted from story by Madeline St. Amour, Longmont Times-Call
May 18, 2018 A Longmont woman was accused of attempted murder after police say she stabbed a man Thursday night at her apartment on Crisman Drive.
Desiree Marie Royval, 34, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the second degree, first-degree assault, felony menacing and tampering with physical evidence.
According to an arrest affidavit, police went to the apartment in the 700 block of Crisman Drive at 10:20 PM after a passerby told an officer there was a man pounding on the patio door.
When the officer arrived, he found the patio door open and Albert Mason, 58, kneeling down and covered in blood. According to the affidavit, Mason yelled, “She (expletive) stabbed me! I'm bleeding out!” while pointing at Ms. Royval.
Mason was taken to Longmont United Hospital for his injuries, which included a large laceration on his scalp, a large stab wound in his back and a smaller stab wound in his neck. The emergency physician reported that the man was “at a substantial risk of death. ”
A witness at the apartment told police that Ms. Royval “pulled a knife on” Mason an hour earlier. He came back to get clothes and, after a verbal altercation, Desiree stabbed him.
The witness also told police Ms. Royval hid the knife under a placemat in the kitchen, where she showed it to the officer. The officer then left the apartment to help get the victim in the ambulance, and when he returned, the witness told the officer that Ms. Royval had now thrown the knife under the couch and told the witness, “Don't say (expletive). ”
Police found the knife, a “folding-style pocket knife,” that had fresh blood about 2 inches up the blade, under the couch.
Ms. Royval was medically cleared at Longs Peak Hospital and then taken to the Boulder County Jail. She is being held on a $500,000 secured bond and was scheduled to appear in court on May 22 nd . Colorado court records show Desiree Royval has previous convictions in Boulder County for felony menacing and third-degree assault.
